In 2007, field tests were conducted by the Greater CincinnatiWater Works (GCWW) to evaluate the Hazen-WilliamsC-values throughout the distribution system. The C-valuetests were conducted with the use of a hydrant diffuserassembly. This poster paper showshow the use of a hydrant diffuser can result inhigher than actual calculated flows and an artificially highC-value. It presents the results of the field tests conducted forthe GCWW, shows the magnitude of the error that can potentiallybe introduced using hydrant diffusers, and presents arecommended correction to use when calculating flowsusing a hydrant diffuser.
