This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of deaths from unsafe water, sanitation and hygiene around the world. A project located in Monwabisi Park (an informal squatter's camp), Cape Town, South Africa, to improve water and sanitation service is presented. Project objectives included the following: analyze "current conditions";assess options;plan communal Water Center;build and operate; and, assess, revise, and replicate. Methodology included: action-research by students, faculty, community;literature review and work with city agencies;community surveys, interviews;design and review process;build with community members;operate and assess includingmany stakeholders and criteria (social, technical, environmental).
