This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB), the BWWB water filtration plants, and the recent history and current activities of the BWWB. In 2003, BWWB took several steps to prepare forthe anticipated Stage 2 Disinfectant/Disinfection Byproduct (D/DBP) Rule includingevaluating 30 plus DBP control alternatives. It established the BWWB Water Quality Initiative that included: Watershed Management;Treatment Management;Distribution System Management;Research and Testing;Assist Consecutive System with Water QualityMonitoring; and, Public Relations and Education. Recently, BWWB completed the design of a Mobile Drinking Water TreatmentPilot Plant that could be used at each of BWWB's fourtreatment plantsfor plant optimization, pre-oxidation alternatives,and initial GAC filter studies. The GAC master plan is presented, along with results of the GAC demonstration project, and the effects of the Stage 2 DBP Rule on BWWB.
