This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the California Urban WaterConservation Council, and California's climate change challenges. California's 20 by 2020 Plan, a seven-partcomprehensive plan for improving theSacramento-San Joaquin Delta, is presented. As part ofthe plan, the Governor directed stateagencies to prepare and implement aprogram to achieve a 20 percent reduction inurban statewide average per capita water useby year 2020. The program is focused solely onurban use reductions, and on theurban demand of potable water. Elements of the program that are presented include: baseline data; proposed targets; and, the existing BMPs that encourageconservation. Final report recommendations: establish a foundation for astatewide conservation strategy; reduce landscape irrigation demand; reduce water waste; reinforce efficiency codes andrelated BMPs; provide financial incentives; implement a statewide conservationpublic information and outreachcampaign; provide new or exercise existingenforcement mechanisms tofacilitate water conservation.
