Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the city of St. Cloud, Florida, and a regulatory compliance project for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Stage I Disinfection Byproducts (DBPs) maximum contaminant limits (MCLs),color and odor MCL violations, improve taste and odor, meet growth demands (9MGD), and maintenance of the city's old facilities. Magnetic ion exchange(MIEX) was selected as theprimary treatmentmechanism for removal of dissolved organic carbon(DOC),color, andBi-sulfide (HS-). Design objectives included the following: treat groundwater for DOC, color, and Hsub2/subS removal; remove remaining Hsub2/subS with pH adjustment and aeration; gravity flow through entire plant; maintain chlorine as disinfectant, reduce demand; design for operational flexibility; incorporate facility expansion from 9 to 12 MGD; and, utilize concrete construction. Topics presented include: water quality requirements; design parameters; process flow schematic; gravity flow and low profiledesign concept; design challenges; supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and security; visual result; plant performance results; and, cost summary. Includes table, figures.
