Distribution system flushing programs have long been an operational tool to manage distributionsystems and the water quality component that is inherently related to this activity. However, anysuccessful distribution system flushing program, prior to implementation, must consider theimpact to stakeholders who will either be directly impacted or are in positions that require aheightened degree of awareness of such programs particularly in the pre-planning stages. Bycombining elements of leadership, communication, activity coordination, and technicalexpertise, water utilities can leverage distribution system flushing activities that will bringenhanced value to their organizations that extends beyond the specific operational results.
