A commercial poly(vinylidene fluoride) ultrafiltration membrane was coated with an ultra-thinpoly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogel layer by depositing a dilute aqueous solution onto themembrane, followed by crosslinking of the surface of the PVA layer through a solid-vaporinterfacial reaction. Membrane properties and performance were evaluated before and aftermodification. The PVA modified membrane displayed superior performance compared to theunmodified membrane.
