Full Description

The City of Temple (City) constructed a 12 MGD membrane water treatment plant (MWTP) in 2004 tosupplement its existing 29.7 MGD conventional water treatment plant (CWTP). After approximately fouryears of operation, plant operators observed a gradual decrease in permeability and inefficient cleaning, resulting in an inability of the MWTP to reach the designed production capacity. In 2008, a plantevaluation was conducted to investigate the cause of the poor membrane performance. The major processstreams of the MWTP were investigated and a fiber cleaning study and module autopsy was performed toidentify potential fouling agents. Key recommendations from this study included a new enhanced clean-in-place protocol to recover the original membrane capacity, membrane filtration system adjustments, anddesign modifications to improve operation and minimize membrane fouling. Includes 2 references, tables, figures.
