Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Groundwater Recovery Enhancement and Treatment (GREAT) Program formed by regional water agencies including theCity of Oxnard/Port Hueneme Water Agency/UnitedWater Conservation District/Calleguas Municipal WaterSupply District to address water supply challenges. GREAT Programobjectives were to:construct regional groundwater desalter to serveOxnard and Port Hueneme;construct recycled water system to serve agricultural users andprevent seawater intrusion; and, convey desal concentrate to enhancecoastal wetlands at Ormond Beach. CaliforniaRecycled Water Regulations for groundwater (GW) recharge are presented, along with AWPF process schematic, microfiltration (MF)/ultrafiltration (UF) technology selection, feedwater disinfection, feedwater pre-coagulationimpact on MF fouling index and flux, reverse osmosis (RO) uses phasedincorporation of large diameterelements, ultraviolet (UV)/advanced oxidation process (AOP), and concentrate treatment wetlands. Brackish concentrate pilot study findings include:ecosystem viability;healthy plant communities, fish;treated water quality;nutrient/metals loss, net mass removal of virtually allmeasured parameters;effluent is ecologically safe;removal to below ecological thresholds for Se, NOsub3/sub;WET testing showed decreases in both acute andchronic toxicity to indicator organisms; and, combination of systems in series can improvetreatment efficiency. Includes tables, figures.
