Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of a facility planning project by the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) for a 70 MGD integrated membrane treatment plant treating turbid river water with high TDS and hardness. The project would make use of water rights for the Virgin andMuddy Rivers upstream of Lake Mead tosupply 70,000 AFY.The proposed project included in-stream diversionstructures, an off-stream storage reservoir, water conveyance facilities, a watertreatment plant, and support facilities.Topics presented include: water quality;treatment objectives; process selection;facility description;preliminary layout; and, process energy requirements. Presentation conclusions indicate the following: water quality from the Virgin and MuddyRivers is challenging for treatment(turbid, brackish, and hard);elaborate pretreatment to maximize reverse osmosis (RO)recovery is necessary;brine management requires thelargest land use (1400 Acres) vstreatment plant (120 Acres);treatment objectives can be achievedbut cost and energy usage are high; and, pilot testing is recommended to verifyassumptions and optimize design toreduce cost. Includes tables, figures.
