Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of World Water Corps Research, whichaims to analyze actual fieldwork andevaluate data collected from fieldwork. Mapping will be critical for establishing actual safedrinking water/improved sanitation coverage indeveloping countries and monitoring progress inmeeting Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). A mapping overview is presented, along with mapping methodology, the WWC volunteer survey, and mapping case study results are given for the following countries: Malawi, India, Nicaragua, and Honduras. Conclusions indicate the following: Case Studies 2 - 4 indicate significantdiscrepancies between coverage data fromMapping/Needs Assessments and Census dataissued by governments;discrepancies mainly due to criteria for coverage(ie. WFP/WWC looked at operational status offacilities and government standards, where others did not);discrepancies emphasize need for mapping todepict accurate picture of safe drinking water/improved sanitation coverage for WFPplanning/monitoring and progress for MDGs; and, Case Study 4 - Malawi key findings with regard toland use, lack of resources for repairs/maintenance,and lack of decentralized systems could be helpful inassessing/planning projects in other areas. Includes tables, figures.
