Newer experimental methods are presented and include the following:use of molecular methods; preferentialdetection of "live" cells; and, microscopy to detect colonization andpersistence. Presentation summary includes: pathogens are integrated into biofilms;ability to grow and/or persist dependson organism and environmentalconditions; and, better tools are needed to detect themin distribution systems.
