Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the Coyote Springs Project. Project objectives included the following:perform surge analysis on Coyote Springs RawWater System, resulting from simultaneouspump trip during power failure; determine whether surge tanks are required, where to place tanks and size of tank required;analysis is based on 30% preliminary design; and,in the future, analysis needs to be refined with availability ofnew data. Transient analysis using HAMMER V8 is presented, along withtransient equations forconservation of momentum and continuity, theJoukowsky equation, surge mitigation measures ofselecting appropriate devices for surge mitigation andsizing of surge tanks, and aminor comparison of HAMMER V8 and Surge2008.Presentation conclusions indicate the following: based on HAMMER V8 results, there is a need to installa 4,200 gallon hydropneumatic surge tank at BPS-2 and28 additional CAVs; there is asignificant difference between HAMMER V8 andSurge 2008 results;however, it is preliminary and requires further investigations toensure situation is repeatable in different systems; and, sensitivity analysis is essential as part of a transientanalysis. Includes tables, figures.
