Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by presenting information on the Falcon Waterfree Urinal System, including:a waterfree urinal saves about 40,000 gallons ofwater per year on average;cartridge must be replaced every 3 to 4 months;each cartridge costs $40 (includes sealant);no water can be used to clean urinal;causes odor when not maintained properly; and, mineral deposits may form in pipes behindurinals. The alternative Eco Cartridge is presented and includes:manufactured by Ecotech Water, LLC;cartridge fits in Falcon urinals;simple design, no replacement cartridges orsealant is needed;each cartridge cost about $160; and,not affected by water or cleaners. Objectives include:collect and analyze deposits in pipesbehind urinals;compare extent of deposition for urinalswith different cartridges; and, perform chemical equilibrium modelingcalculations to assess potential forprecipitation to occur as a result of ureahydrolysis. Experimental plan includes the following:remove urinals from walls in high and low usefacilities that have used Falcon and Ecocartridges;take photographs to document the extent ofdeposition in pipes;collect precipitate from pipe;analyze precipitate using X-Ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM);predict pH increase due to hydrolysis of ureausing theoretical chemical equilibrium modeling; and, predict potential for precipitation of differenttypes of solid phases. Includes tables, figures.
