Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of urban challenges to keeping the water and energy balance. The challenge of increasing the water supply toresidential users is presented, along with the components of water conservation including reducing non-revenuewater (NRW). A global estimate of NRW and its cost is presented, along with changes in the World Bank approach towater resource challenges, and the benefits of performance-based NRWreduction. Examples of successfulperformance-based NRW reductioncontracts are provided. Presentation conclusions indicate the following:water conservation increases operational efficiency;supply side conservation is more cost effective thandemand side conservation;many utilities struggle to manage NRW effectively;performance-based NRW reduction contracts can helputilities bysustainably reducing NRW andusing real loss savings as a "new" water resource; and, improve revenues, reduce operating costs. Includes tables, figures.
