This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the South Tahoe Public UtilityDistrict and the Angora fire of June 2007. Utility emergency response to challenges of the fire are discussed and include the following: access;communication;worker safety;waterdistribution; and, incidentcommand post. Work immediately after the fire included the following:cap sewerlaterals;test, repair, andreplace hydrants;slope stabilization;hazard treeremoval;tank and boosterstation conditionassessment; and,confirm waterservices were off. Lessons learned include the following:immediately contact ICP, don't wait for aninvitation;integrate into the strategic planning meetings;provide appropriate PPE even if ICP says it is notrequired;consider and plan for loss of power, loss ofSCADA, limited access, redundancy;start thinking about post-emergency implicationseven before the situation is under control;revisit Emergency Response Procedures; get trained in NIMS/SEMS; notify OES and immediately apply for potentialreimbursement;track all costs for potential reimbursement;set up the EOC at the district; track and log all actions;all employees should have IDs with pictures;have beacons for every truck; and,coordinate emergency response plan withbusiness continuity plan.
