Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of the project objectives that include the following:work performed for PRASA to evaluate alternativewater supplies;feasibility study for a reverse osmosis watertreatment plant using brackish water dischargedfrom Cano Tiburones near City of Arecibo;feasibility study for a reverse osmosis watertreatment plant using brackish groundwater fromSouth Coast Aquifer near City of Salinas. Treatment processes are presented that were selected toprovide adequate pretreatment for RO. Conclusions on the Arecibo RO WTP indicate the following: it is feasible and canbe implemented;suitable WTP sites are available; finished water tie-in points are available;permittable concentrate disposal points areavailable - may be time-consuming;raw water supplies are likely adequate - furtherproof is needed;costs are relatively high, but not unreasonable andshould decrease on a per gallon capacity basiswith further project development. Presentation conclusions for the Salinas RO WTP include the following: it is feasible and canbe implemented;suitable WTP sites are available;finished water tie-in points are available;permittable concentrate disposal points areavailable - may be time-consuming;raw water supplies are likely adequate -further proof is needed; and, costs are relatively high, but not unreasonableand should decrease on a per gallon capacitybasis with further project development. Includes tables, figures.
