This article reviews existing literature and practicein the area of intuitive naming conventions inhydraulic modeling of water distribution systems. Useof systematic, intuitive naming conventions in modelingcan increase efficiency and reduce costs in the longrun. Without it, models may be confusing, and thereforeof limited use, to the next user. This researchprovides guidance on appropriate model file managementand model development documentation. Thecore elements of this research are relevant to the entirewater industry and can be adapted for other modeldevelopment.
