Full Description

The technical objectives of this powerpoint presentation included: utilization of a fluidized bed bioreactor (FBR) treatmentsystem to treat 50 gpm of perchlorate laden water intopotable water;complete treatment system consists of a fluidized bedbioreactor, aeration vessel, multimedia filter, LGAC unit, and a UV system; and,a six month testing period to be conducted forself-seeding of system, downstream equipment effectiveness, challenge experiments: feed and electrical system shutdowns,on-line nitrate and perchlorate analyzer capabilities, andchlorination and UV disinfection studies. The technical approach, technical progress, operating costs, on-going and future works are presented. Conclusions: nitrate and perchlorate removed by indigenous bacteria in FBRwithin 21 days of start-up;downstream equipment produced effluent water with oxygen 7.0mg/L, turbidity 0.3 mg/L, TTHM 80 g/L, HAA5 60 g/L, noE.Coli production; challenge experiments demonstrated rebound performance of theFBR as low as 2 hours (no more than 24 hours);nitrate analyzers and perchlorate analyzer were effective,a back-up nitrate analyzer is recommended, guard column to be changed out every six months; and, disinfection studies demonstrated thatCT of 4 for a log 3+ removal of HPC andUV contact time of 6 seconds for a log 3+ removal of HPC. Includes tables, figures.
