Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing background information on bacterial regrowth, organic matter, assimilable organic carbon (AOC) and the waterindustry. The objective of this study was to develop a rapid, standardized andconvenient test for AOC to accurately determine the regrowthpotential of treated water. The methodology included bioluminescent test organisms and assay. Results presented include: standard curves;modeling of maximum growth, lability and kinetics; and, validation in reclaimed/reuse water. Conclusions arrived at included: the luminescence-based AOC test generates resultsfaster than previous methods, more efficiently, is cost-effectiveand less labor intensive;the luminescence method gives reliable results for AOCas acetate carbon equivalents and provides data on theliability and kinetics of carbon utilization; and, this method is applicable to freshwater matrices, reusewater, and drinking water networks. Includes tables, figures.
