Full Description

This powerpoint presentation reports on a Catskill turbidity control study in New York state. Storm events in theSchoharie and Ashokanwatersheds lead to periodicelevated turbidity levels in theCatskill system. The overall study goal was to developa comprehensive analysis ofengineering and structuralalternatives at the SchoharieReservoir that may reduceturbidity levels enteringEsopus Creek. topics covered include: Reservoir Modeling Framework;Reservoir Water Quality Model;Reservoir System Operations Model;Evaluation of Alternatives;Turbidity;Temperature; and, Cost/Benefits. Study conclusions found that: apowerful modeling framework enabled a robust, performance-basedevaluation of possible alternatives thatcaptures feedback between system operation and reservoirwater quality, andcaptures a wide range (57 years) of forcing conditions and givesa more accurate picture of long-term performance; models are critical for sound decision-making in complex systems; and, worthwhile evaluating alternatives using a robust modelingframework before making major capital decisions. Includes tables, figures.
