Full Description

This powerpoint presentation begins by providing a brief overview of simultaneous microbe concentrationfrom high volume samples, including charge modified microfilters, microfiltration for simultaneousmicrobe recovery, ultrafiltration (UF), and 100-L UF research. Conclusions were that:achieved simultaneous recovery of diversemicrobes from 100-L tap water samples;average UF recovery efficiencies from 45-89%;PCR detection at levels of 100 oocysts, cfuor pfu when 4-7% of water sample assayed;Cost - Capital: ~$2500, Supplies: ~$65; Blocking and Backflushing or Elution arean important part of the UF protocol;Backflushing augmented the recovery by 12 to 25%;Elution changed recovery by -6 to +22%;Two methods not significantly different; and,UF technique gaining visibility as aneffective and time-efficient technique forrecovering microbes from water. Includes 6 references, tables, figures.
