Full Description

The objective of this study was to obtain a better understanding of the rejection and transport behavior ofN-nitrosamines through nanofiltration (NF) and reverse osmosis (RO) membranes. Nitrosaminesteady-state rejections by NF membranes ranged from 9% to 76%, depending on NF membranes andnitrosamine compounds. As molecular weight increased, nitrosamine rejection increased, with theexception of N-nitrosodiphenylamine (NDPHA). There was no feed concentration effect on nitrosaminerejections with different feed concentrations over three orders of magnitude. RO membranes will be testedfor the removal of nitrosamines and experimental data will be applied to mathematical models todetermine permeabilities of various nitrosamines through NF and RO membranes. Includes 14 references, table, figure.
