Full Description

The main objective of this research was to investigate the removal of natural organic matter(NOM) through adsorption using iron-impregnated pumices from various natural sources. The useof original or surface-modified pumices to remove NOM in water treatment operations was notinvestigated in the available literature. The impacts of natural pumice source, particle size fraction, pumice dose, pumice surface chemistry and specific surface area, iron impregnation, water pH andtemperature, and NOM source on the ultimate extent and rate of NOM removal were studied indetail. The performances of iron-impregnated pumices in removing NOM were also comparedwith those of commercial granular activated carbons (GAC). Includes 28 references, tables, figures.
