The objective of this paper was to provide an overview on the placement of contaminant warningsystem instruments within water distribution networks. The paper discusses considerations in the selection of instrument locations including local site conditions and system wide considerations. The paper also discusses methods used for selecting instrument locations such as: intuitive methods;optimization/mathematical programming methods; and,hydraulic/water quality network simulation methods.
