Full Description
This paper discusses mapping and managing the spatial information of the Prince William County Service Authority (PWCSA) municipal water and sewer system in Virginia that uses an integrated OpenGIS solution comprised of Autodesk MapGuide and Map software, WaterMAP and the Oracle E-Business Suite. A GUI front-end was developed to allowusers in AutoCAD Map and MapGuide towrite directly to the Oracle Spatial database.Custom tools were developed inAutoCAD Map to allow the PWCSA mappingdepartment to completely maintainthe water and sewer networks in theAutoCAD environment. When a networkfeature is added in AutoCAD Map, it isimmediately written to the Oracledatabase. Therefore, data sharing isreal-time regardless of which applicationis reading the Oracle data. Another advantage to using Oracle is thatthe database is fully compatible with theHansen maintenance management systemthe PWCSA uses to record and trackinspection results, work histories, job costinginformation, etc. Topics covered include: growth as driver of new system; linking with Oracle; benefits of going digital; and, future goals and plans.
