Full Description

Advanced water treatment processes, including nanofiltration (NF) membranes, granular activated carbon (GAC), and ozone process, were evaluated in terms of removal efficiencies of personal care products (PCP). Four differentPCP compounds that included DEET, galaxolide, tonalide, and musk ketone, were used to evaluate theirremoval efficiency by selected advanced water treatment processes. Two different NFmembranes, RF and NE40, were studied to investigate PCP removal mechanisms. PCPcompounds which have higher molecular weight and higher Ksubow/sub were more effectively removedby NF membranes. Two different GAC, SCL-100 and F-400, completely removed all of testedPCPs. Compared to other processes, ozone provided relatively low removal efficiencies of PCPs. Includes 8 references, tables, figures.
