The management of demineralization concentrate from municipal watertreatment plants is a growing issue as an increasing number of communities shiftto alternative water supplies to meet demands. These alternative water suppliestypically include saline or mineralized sources, among others, and require theuse of demineralization technologies such as reverse osmosis.The residual from demineralization processes ("concentrate") requires suitablemanagement practices and can determine the viability of a project. Thesemanagement practices include surface water discharge, subsurface injection,sanitary sewer discharge, land application and others. Demineralizationconcentrate management alternatives as well as trends in utilization ofmanagement alternatives are presented for the state of Florida. Includes 2 references, tables, figures.
