Pilot plant experiments were conducted using three different membranesystems for micro and ultrafiltration of high levels of oxidized iron andmanganese. Three sets of performance tests were conducted to evaluatewhether each system could meet the goals of chemical clean frequency no lessthan 30 days, 97% minimum recovery, iron less than 0.1 mg/L andmanganese less than 0.05 mg/L. Two different oxidants, ozone andpermanganate were used upstream of the membranes. Preliminary resultsshow that all three membrane systems effectively removed the iron andmanganese when the oxidant was optimally dosed. Includes tables, figures.
