The primary objective of this research was to understand the impact of pH and zeta potential on coagulation processes and, more specifically, on filtration performance. In the first phase, a synthetic water containing a relatively high natural organic matter(NOM) concentration was studied in bench-scale experiments using jar tests and an optical coagulation monitoring technique, photometric dispersion analysis (PDA), which monitors the rate of floc development. In the second phase, pilot scale filtration experiments were performed using a natural, spring runoff source. Filter effluent quality (particle counts and residual TOC) was compared vs. pH and zeta potential and was correlated with PDA output. Includes 7 references, table, figures. Product Details
