The 1990s brought to the utility industry a potpourri of trenchless constructionmethodologies that included horizontal directional drilling (HDD), microtunneling, pipe bursting, and a myriad of pipe rehabilitation techniques. Not all ownershave embraced these new technologies. Reluctant to compromise on thequality, reliability, and structural integrity of their pipelines many owners havebeen waiting for a ductile iron pipe solution. This paper discusses casehistories where owners have successfully utilized conventional "bell-spigot" aswell as "bell-less" ductile iron pipe joints for installation by trenchless methods. Includes 5 references, figures.
