This project investigates how new homes could be built in England in a more water efficient manner. It investigates what factors contribute most to increased demand for water and what fixtures and fittings could be adapted to reduce water use without compromising customer satisfaction. The results indicate that by building to a water efficient specification, a reduction of 5% per person per day in consumption can be achieved. Specific project objectives included: investigate the practicalities of specifying and installing a range of water efficiency measures; evaluate the water consumption from the use of these measures; determine user reaction to the measures; and, produce a specification for water efficient homes.
