Full Description

This paper describes an effort by the Las Vegas Valley Water District (LVVWD) to install a 17 mile $30 million Recycled Water Distribution System (RWDS). The road from design to completion was complicated, but development of trust and understanding between a government agency and residential community, led to a successful project. This case study will take a look at the challenges the LVVWD faced from three areas: the press, the politicians and the public. Challenges including traffic disruptions, contract discrepancies, schedules, negative press coverage and public opinion, along with how they were handled, are discussed. The study also focuses on tools including public meetings, newsletters, media interviews and signage.
