Full Description

The use of reclaimed water has developed a new program for the Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD). Within the 120 square miles of southern Orange County that makes up IRWD reclaimed water has been used for over 15 years to irrigate golf courses, greenbelts, parks, and school yards. Agricultural irrigation of peppers, citrus crops, tomatoes, and other crops has been common in the IRWD. With the largest dual distribution system for nonpotable water in the Western United States, IRWD building on its 15 years of success has been developing three new major markets for reclaimed water. These three new markets are reclaimed water for flushing toilets and urinals in commercial buildings, large scale conversions of residential developments, and providing reclaimed water to individual residential lots through privately owned and operated on-site systems.
